Raising Whole Children: The Beautiful Balancing Act of Parenthood
Becoming a parent has been the most stretching, overwhelming, and beautiful experience of my life. It’s a journey filled with extremes—deep, soul-shaking love mixed with the kind of worry that wakes you up at 2 a.m. wondering if you're doing enough, being enough, or preparing them for everything this world might throw at them.
I still remember the early days with my daughter. That first year? My mind was constantly racing. How do I not mess this up? How do I give her the best chance to grow into a strong, resilient woman? I was doing all the things—changing nappies, feeding around the clock, ticking off milestone checklists—but deep down, I knew there was more to raising her than just meeting her physical needs.
It was in the quiet, everyday moments—rocking her to sleep, folding tiny clothes—that I started to understand how important it is to nurture her emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I realised that while we’re often quick to prioritise school readiness or healthy snacks, we can so easily overlook the inner world of our children.
They need more than routines. They need connection. They need to know they’re safe and unconditionally loved. They need encouragement to explore, learn, and grow—tools to navigate emotions and build real resilience. And most importantly, they need spiritual roots. A solid foundation of truth and faith that can hold steady no matter what comes their way.
When I reflect on my own childhood, it's the spiritual grounding that stands out the most. It shaped who I became. And now, as a mum, I see how vital it is to commit our kids to God—entrusting them to His hands, His wisdom, and His plan. Because no matter how hard we try, we can’t do it all. But He can.
One of the simplest, most powerful things I’ve learned to do is to pray over my children. A friend gifted me The Power of a Praying Parent in those early days of motherhood, and it truly blessed me. The prayers in that book gave language to what was already in my heart—every hope, every fear, every desire for their future.
That’s also why I created The Great I Am Kids. We’re here to walk alongside you with tools like our Declaration Cards for Kids—simple but powerful ways to speak God’s truth over your little ones every day. Because raising faith-filled kids isn’t about perfection—it’s about being intentional, planting seeds, and trusting God with the rest.
Let’s raise kids who are whole, grounded, and confident in who they are in Christ.
We’re in this together.
Love,
